Meet Mike Mooney

Michael J. Mooney has nearly 36 years experience as an attorney and limits his practice primarily to Adult Social Security and Social Security Insurance (SSI) Disability claims. He began his career as an attorney with the Legal Aid Society of Cincinnati in 1972. He did his first Social Security Disability case in 1974. He started his private practice in 1983 and began focusing exclusively on Social Security claims in 1994. Over the years, Michael has helped thousands of individuals resolve their disability claims. To ensure success, he limits the number of cases to approximately 150 per year.

Michael is an active member of the Cincinnati Bar Association (CBA) and the National Organization of Social Security Claimants Representatives (NOSCCR). He has served as past chair of the Cincinnati Bar Association’s (CBA) Social Security Law Subcommittee, is a lecturer at the CBA’s annual Social Security seminar, has been a guest speaker at the NOSSCR’s national conference and has case summaries posted on NOSSCR’s website to be referenced by other attorneys. Michael was invited to provide input to the April 1997 Oversight of the Disability Appeals Process Hearing before the Subcommittee on Social Security of the Committee on Ways and Means House of Representatives One Hundred Fifth Congress.

Michael’s practice includes representation before the United States District Court Southern District Ohio, the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court.

Michael’s Bachelor’s degree is from Hiram College (1968) and his Juris Doctor degree is from the University of Illinois (1972).

Michael and his wife, Barbara, (who is also an attorney) have three sons, and reside in the Cincinnati area. His volunteer activities have included the Walnut Hills Boosters Club, the Boy Scouts and boys’ soccer.
